The Rip Van Winkle Tobacco-Free Coalition
Rip Van Winkle Tobacco-Free is one of 29 Community Partnerships around the state funded by grants from the NYS Department of Health. Community Partnerships educate community leaders and the public about the dangers and social costs of tobacco; advocate with local officials and community leaders to adopt policies and resolutions that decrease tobacco industry presences, denormalize tobacco use, and eliminate exposure to second hand smoke. We work to reduce the tobacco industry's advertising sponsorship, and promotion in our communities. Our common goals are:
- Eliminate exposure to secondhand smoke.
- Decrease the social acceptability of tobacco use.
- Prevent initiation of tobacco use to prevent young people from becoming smokers.
- Promote cessation from tobacco use.
The Rip Van Winkle Tobacco-Free Coalition of Columbia and Greene Counties is a program of the Healthcare Consortium. It is a grant funded by the New York State Department of Health Tobacco Control Program (NYTCP).
